About ConflictStats
Last checked against the UCDP pages:
ConflictStats is a bulletin of figures. It prints the events of organized violence and the estimated deaths that the Uppsala Conflict Data Program (UCDP) records. UCDP is a program of the Department of Peace and Conflict Research at Uppsala University.
What the bulletin contains
- A page for each of 49 countries, 314 regions and 130 actors, as UCDP names them.
- A report for each month of a country or a region.
- Seven tables of countries by one measure, in name order.
- A log of what each UCDP update changed.
- A CSV file of the events of each country.
Every figure has its period, its source and its data date. This issue rests on UCDP GED 26.1 and UCDP Candidate Events 26.0.8, with data through 31 Aug 2026. A figure that counts an event from Candidate Events carries the mark P, because UCDP has not reviewed those events.
The readers are students, teachers, reporters and analysts. They need one figure with its source, or the events of one country as a file.
Outside the scope
- Advice. The site gives no travel advice, no safety advice, no alert and no forecast.
- Judgment. A count of events does not measure danger. It does not measure the size of a conflict or the conduct of a government or a group.
- Single incidents. The site does not check one incident and does not report news. It prints what UCDP records.
- Events that UCDP does not record. UCDP records an event only when a source shows at least one direct death.
- Small places. A country or an actor needs 10 events in the last 12 months to have a page. A region needs 5.
- Persons. No page is about a person. The site withholds the name of a group that UCDP names for a person, or may name for one. It writes a label in place of the name.
- Order of names. Every table opens in the order of names. No table opens in an order of deaths. The reader can sort a table of countries by a column, also by deaths. The tables of actors have no sort button.
How the pages are produced
A program builds the data pages. It reads the UCDP files and does all the arithmetic. It writes every sentence about a figure from fixed sentence rules, so one fact reads the same on every page.
No generative AI runs while the site is built.
An AI writing tool was used to write the sentence rules, the glossary and the pages about the site. These pages are About, Methodology, Data sources and licences, Corrections and Contact. Zippie, the publisher, is responsible for all of them.
Each text page opens with the date on which its content was last compared with the UCDP pages. The methodology gives the rules of every calculation.
Advertising
The site can show advertisements and sponsor placements. A label marks each one. No payer decides what a page says or shows. At the date of the last check, 2 Oct 2026, the pages show no advertisement and no sponsor placement.

If a figure is wrong
Name the page and the figure in a request for a correction. The page Corrections says how a request is handled. The page Contact gives the address and the telephone number.
The page Data sources and licences lists every dataset, its licence and the citation that UCDP asks for.
Privacy of readers
The bulletin counts visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics. The service sets no cookie, stores nothing in the browser, builds no profile of a reader and does not follow readers to other sites.
Cloudflare, Inc. processes the page address, the referring page, the browser and device type, the country and the page load times of each visit.
Vercel, the host, keeps ordinary server logs, and a reader needs no account or email address.
The bulletin never receives the watch list or the theme choice, which stay in the local storage of the browser.
