ConflictStats uses open datasets only. The program read the UCDP files on . This issue rests on UCDP GED 26.1 and UCDP Candidate Events 26.0.9.
Uppsala Conflict Data Program (UCDP)
UCDP is a program of the Department of Peace and Conflict Research at Uppsala University. The site uses two UCDP datasets for the events and the estimated deaths. They are the Georeferenced Event Dataset (GED) and the Candidate Events Dataset. The licence is CC BY 4.0. UCDP Dataset Download Center
The site also reads the UCDP Actor Dataset. It gives the number of each actor. The number links a page to the UCDP page of that actor. It also gives other names of an actor, which the search uses.

The codebooks: UCDP GED Codebook, version 26.1 and UCDP Candidate Events Dataset Codebook, version 1.5.
The citation that UCDP asks for
UCDP asks a user to cite the publications that are listed with each dataset. These are the citations of the two datasets.
- Shawn Davies, Therése Pettersson, Magnus Öberg, Organized violence 1989–2025, and violent political protests, Journal of Peace Research, 2026. https://doi.org/10.1093/jopres/xjag046

UCDP is part of and funded by DEMSCORE, national research infrastructure grant 2021-00162 from the Swedish Research Council.
The citations are from the UCDP Dataset Download Center. The site copied them on .
World Bank
The population of each country comes from the World Bank indicator "Population, total" (SP.POP.TOTL) in World Development Indicators. The licence is CC BY 4.0. data.worldbank.org. The licence page of the World Bank gives the terms.
The World Bank names four sources for the indicator:
- the World Population Prospects of the United Nations Population Division
- national statistical offices
- Eurostat
- the Statistics Division of the United Nations
The site divides UCDP counts by the population to make a rate. The World Bank does not publish these rates.
Wikidata
The population of first-level regions comes from Wikidata (property P1082). The licence is CC0. The site holds a copy of the figures. wikidata.org
UNHCR
A country page shows the refugees and the asylum seekers from that country in one block, apart from the UCDP counts. The source is the UNHCR Refugee Population Statistics Database. The licence is CC BY 4.0. UNHCR Refugee Data Finder
UNHCR asks for this attribution: "UNHCR Refugee Population Statistics Database". UNHCR also asks that a link to the datasets gives the address of its terms. Read the UNHCR terms of use for datasets. UNHCR has not endorsed this site.
Natural Earth
The outlines of countries (scale 1:110m) and of first-level regions (scale 1:10m) come from Natural Earth. The data are in the public domain. naturalearthdata.com
Downloads of this site
- Each country page has a CSV file with one row for each UCDP event that the site holds. The page names the first and the last date.
- The column status says "preliminary" for a row from Candidate Events.
- Each country page has a JSON file with the figures of the page.
- The files hold no free text from a source.
- The site withholds the name of a group that is named for a person. In the columns side_a, side_b and dyad, the file has the label "Group named for a person (name not shown)" in its place. The file has the label "Actor not identified by UCDP" for an actor that UCDP does not identify. The column ucdp_id stays, so that you can find the UCDP record.
