Ukraine: conflict events in January 2026

In January 2026, UCDP recorded 229 organized-violence events in Ukraine, with 13,384 estimated deaths. That is -66% compared with 674 events the month before. The death toll range is 13,253 to 13,591.

100% of the month's events were state-based armed conflict. Civilian deaths: 150.

Events were concentrated in Donetsk oblast (85), Kharkiv oblast (31), Kherson oblast (27).

The most active pairing was Government of Russia (Soviet Union) - Government of Ukraine with 228 events.
